Pool safety rules for Illawarra families
NSW has clear rules for backyard pools and spas deeper than 300mm. They keep young children safe, and we plan your pool area around them from the start.
- A child-resistant barrier at least 1.2m high, built to Australian Standard AS 1926.1.
- A clear climb zone: keep furniture, pots and barbecues away from the fence so children can't use them to climb over.
- A CPR sign near the pool, easy to read from 3m away.
- Registration on the free NSW Swimming Pool Register.
- Active supervision: no barrier replaces an adult watching young swimmers.
